The Community’s Role in Motivating Urban Students is Non-Negotiable is a book that offers a simple solution to a major problem—motivating urban children to excel academically. A good education should not be only a requirement but a human birthright. With this in mind, The Community's Role in Motivating Urban Students (CRMUSIN) Is Non-Negotiable is a long overdue call to arms in response to a national crisis-low academic achievement in urban areas.
CRMUSIN proposes a solution for failing urban schools by rallying every facet of the community to accept the challenge and join in the task of motivating urban students to develop a culture of achievement. CRMUSIN offers a proposal to urban communities to unify toward the common goal of motivating urban students to excel academically and strive towards the same heights and levels of excellence that they attain on the basketball courts, football fields, track and field, and in the Entertainment industry.
CRMUSIN's first step is devising a plan encompassing the entire community, or "village," and entreating the help and support of all the major entities by organizing them into a united front. The goal is to motivate and encourage urban students to strive for academic excellence. By working with the multiple facets of the community, the students will be able to make connections to and understand the importance of what they learn in the classroom and link it to the real world.
CRMUSIN 's next step involves incorporating the government, media, churches, businesses, and local colleges in the plan to motivate urban students. Additionally, through reading programs, CRMUSIN recognizes the connection between academic-performance levels and students who read regularly and offers a plan to encourage students to read more. Then by helping students to develop strong leadership skills and learn about their history, CRMUSIN covers more areas of self-improvement. Along with parental reinforcement, CRMUSIN covers all of the major steps necessary for academic success.
